Description: Up for sale, a 1998 Volvo C70 T5M in Saffron gold. I bought this car roughly 13 years ago and have managed to put 58 miles on it. It is at this point technically a 2 owner car (though I never titled it from the original owner). I have the original TX title and I expect it can be signed over to another owner. (I'll read up on the details of doing this since my name is inked onto it as buyer.) As for the back story, this came up for sale locally and being a Volvo enthusiast I understood the relative rarity of the car. At the time I owned several T5's (and still own several). I'm not really sure what I intended for the car, it was more of an impulse buy than anything else. It was rare and I had the spare cash at the time. I've owned a few R cars over the years and a '95 T5 Yellow back in the day so this car is/was familiar territory. Fast forward a decade - I'm driving my wife and neighbors a little crazy with the car-lot of project Volvo's so I think it's time to move this along to a better home. I also have 2 '98 S70 T5M's which will show up for sale after this goes. The exterior is starting to show its age and the clear coat is degrading. Interior is about like I found it when purchased but the passenger knee bolster panel has dropped at some point. (it's held by a plastic tab that fails over time). Dash plastic near the windshield looks poor and cracked, the padded portion looks fine. I went through it mechanically when I bought it, I was fastidious about tuning and maintenance, making sure I had full boost, good drivability, suspension etc.... I've never owned a T5 Volvo that at some point did not get an ECM tune, IPD sways and other light performance parts. As for this guy, the original owner had an IPD tune flashed and a TME cat-back exhaust was added. The car retains its original sway bars. I probably bought IPD's for it but they were never installed, I have a few new sets in the attic. It's been so long since I bought it I only recall doing the timing belt and it seems like I may have refreshed the brakes/suspension. I really don't recall any longer. I didn't do much here except enjoy the car sitting in the driveway. At this point, everything should be gone through to get fresh fluids everywhere and verify decent ignition (wires may have degraded over time). So, where it sits today, it's got cosmetic wear and needed maintenance. It went through a hail storm last year which gave it a few dings. The metal on these is pretty thick so it's not horrible but there are dings to address if you want perfect cosmetics, fortunately they aren't too huge or too numerous. I don't know the accident history prior to my purchasing, it looked straight enough to me. There is one area on the body (bottom) near the rear tire that is a little squished - I think it may have hopped a curb based on location. There may be other things in the VIN report that I've forgotten or never knew. This is an AS-IS project for someone who has time and money, I make no promises that you are going to gas this up and drive it off into the sunset. Clutch cable seemed stiff last time I moved the car, I'll look at it this weekend. I put the OMP strut bar on the car and clutch cable solid bushings, likely the month I bought it many years ago. Obviously, the car is rare. According to the owner this was the first C70 Saffron with a manual that was shipped west of the Mississippi. I might be imagining this but I think the total count of C70T5M's in Saffron for '98 was a quantity of 7 cars, there were more automatics but they aren't terribly common either. Not sure where I got that number and it might be worldwide production (or totally incorrect). Somehow that's stuck in my brain for whatever reason. The car can be started and driven onto a trailer but I would not take it further than a few blocks as it sits, the front tires are garbage. I should be able to answer most questions regarding the car and I'll check it over more in the next few days and add some pics. I've been a Volvo guy for a long time and have at least some competence on these cars. There are certainly going to be a host of mechanical things to do and cosmetic imperfections as you'd expect from a car of this vintage that's been sitting over a decade outside. I'm going to promise nothing here. I'm not aware of any disasters waiting to happen, it has just aged out of my desire to do anything with it. Family life and older age have come home to roost. The asking price is perhaps high (in my mind) but I think we are past the days of finding T5 Yellows and funky Volvo cars for low dollar amounts. I intend to sell it this month for a rational offer so don't obsess over the starting price. I've seen '95 Yellow's fetch good money (15-30k) and this car is notably more rare and should be in the same small niche of demand. I could be wrong..... It's certainly a more beautiful body design to my eyes. I'm happy to provide additional details and/or photo's to any interested party. Details might be easiest in a phone conversation after I've put a battery in this and driven it around the block a few times. Thanks for reading, I managed to make this a novel. US bidders/buyers only or please make your own arrangements for shipping out of the country. A $500 deposit will be required after an agreed upon price which will be non refundable. If you hit the buy button and attempt to renegotiate the price you will lose your deposit and won't own the car. Any negotiations need to be done prior to sale, not after. Arrangements for shipping/pickup can be sorted out later. Car is in central TX, just north of Austin should anyone wish to inspect it up close.
