Description: LOGAN WANNAMAKER Logan Wannamaker BIO Logan Wannamaker was born in Durango, Colorado and is a full-time ceramic artist in Taos, New Mexico. His studio is located just a few miles down the road from his gallery on the way to the Taos Ski Valley. Logan was first exposed to clay when he was a teenager, making vessels on the wheel and learning from the Durango ceramics community. After high school, Logan decided to pursue a degree in Spanish/Economic from Hampden Sydney College in Virginia. However, he soon returned to Colorado to continue exploring his passion in ceramics. He joined the Boulders Potters Guild in 2002 and in exchange for studio space he was responsible for mixing and creating all the clays for the guild. At that same time, he learned more about alchemy and wood firing by attending classes at the University of Colorado. In 2006 he moved to Taos, New Mexico to help build the Tres Piedras Anagama kiln with friend John Bradford. He also helped create a contemporary ceramics community by managing the local clay studio. He developed a summer workshop program, two residencies, ongoing classes, and a variety of firing possibilities. In 2014 he sold Taos Clay and started selling his ceramics full time. Taos Clay helped him draw in ceramic artists from all over the world and the 10-year period managing the business helped formulate his education and background in ceramics. Currently Logan creates out of his home studio he built in 2015. Most of his clays and slips are hand dug all over Northern New Mexico and Southwestern Colorado. Most of his work is fired in his massive Anagama Wood Kiln on the Hondo Mesa. The Taos community helps Logan fire the kiln which consumes close to 10 cords of wood and is fired continuously for 120 hours. The community fires the kiln every Spring and Fall. Logan lives with his wife of 15 years and his two daughters Stolle and Ava next to his studio. Each day he is inspired by the rich landscape that surrounds his home by skiing, rafting, and riding the many paths, streams, rivers and mountains that surround his home.
