The essays are authored by Fritz Stern, WHO INSCRIBED, DATED (Jan 1997) AND SIGNED BY THE BOOK TO MARION. On Fritz Stern from Wikipedia: "Fritz Richard Stern (February 2, 1926 – May 18, 2016) was a German-born American historian of German history, Jewish history and historiography. He was a University Professor and a provost at New York's Columbia University. His work focused on the complex relationships between Germans and Jews in the 19th and 20th centuries and on the rise of National Socialism in Germany during the first half of the 20th century." This item was purchased from the estate of Marion Deshmukh. Marion and Fritz were friends, and several items signed by Fritz Stern to Marion were purchased from this estate. Marion Deshmukh taught in the Department of History and Art History at George Mason University, Washington, DC, for forty-five years, and in her later years was the Robert T. Hawkes Professor Emerita of History at George Mason University. She specialized in modern German and European cultural and visual history. Her most famous work was, Max Liebermann: Modern Art and Modern Germany, published in 2017. She passed in 2019. The book is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. Dust jacket with light edge wear, no tears or chips. Pristine blue cloth boards with a red background spine title. No further interior marks in 317 clean and solidly bound pages. The only wear issue is some foxing marks seen on page edges, mostly on page tops, not affecting the interior pages of the book. B47
