Description: 1995 Holy Lights Lubok Engraving 21/50 - Victor Kinza Signed - Framed 16.5"x14" - Limited Edition - Very FINE "Holy Lights" is a pencil signed, titled and numbered original limited edition lubok engraving created by Victor Kinza in 1995. The large, central image of a lit menorah perched in a tree is surrounded by fanciful depictions of birds, animals, a violin, and more. The colors, apart from black and white, are hot pink, yellow, and orange. The print is matted and professionally framed. Lubok engraving is an ancient Russian technique that combines carving an image into a wood plate, printing the image (by placing paper on the wood and rubbing it with a spoon), then painting on the print - all steps in the process are by hand. Note that an 8"x12" version of this print is sold on Kinza's website for $115. Framed print measures 16 1/2" tall x 14" wide; image within the matt measures 12 3/4" tall x 10" wide. Lot weight is 2 lbs. 13 oz., estimated shipping weight is 5-6 lbs. Will be thoroughly padded and carefully packed for secure, intact delivery. U.S. Shipments: Will be insured and shipped USPS Priority Mail. Notes adapted from the artist's website: Victor Kinza (b. Krivokhizha) was born in the village of Belopolye in the Ukraine. After graduating from high school, he worked as a commercial artist, studied privately with artists in Moscow, and in 1979 he completed a degree at the prestigious Mukhin Art Institute in St. Petersburg. Many of his images and designs are adaptations of traditional Russian styles and inspired by the mythology of many cultures. Kinza's paintings and engravings can be found in private collections in Germany, Austria, Japan, Italy and the United States. His work is also included in The Norton and Nancy Dodge Collection at Rutgers University. At present, he lives and works in Washington, D.C. and is creating pieces that express what he sees as the spiritual essence of all things. "The interrelationship between cultures can be seen through art. I am thankful that I can create in a new country," says Kinza.
