The first issue of this now obsolete design, it carries the signatures of E. A. Evans and B. W. Fraser and was issued in 1995. Australia changed from the old Pound, Shillings and Pence system to the Dollar in 1966. The first "Polymer" banknotes were issued in 1988 and now all Australian notes are made of polymer. Australia was the first country to develop and use polymer banknotes. "Standard Catalog of World Paper Money" (Modern Issues 1961-) by Albert Pick. #54a. Face: Black and deep purple on yellow-brown, green and multicolor. • David Unaipon, lived 1872-1967. He was an Aboriginal Australian man of the Ngarrindjeri people, a preacher, inventor and author. Called the Australian "Leonardo da Vinci" for his mechanical ideas, which included pre-World War I drawings for a helicopter design based on the principle of the boomerang.
