Description: Author: Robert L Crowson Title: School–Community Relations, Under Reform Binding: hardcover, no dust jacket Size: about 6" x 9" Pagination: 317pp Published: McCutchan Publishing, 1992 Condition: Like new, with light shelf wear [OCR is approximate, as always] ABOUT THE BOOK This book examines the changing politics and administration of school-community relations. Among the array of recent educational improvement and school-reform initiatives nationwide, there is new interest in strengthening connections between public schools and the parent/ community clientele. The initiatives include increased consumer choice, school-home partnerships, direct parental involvement in school governance, and a new service-provision and community-creating outreach by the school into the surrounding community. The current reforms in school-community relations challenge many assumptions about educational institutions and their environments. "Old" strategies to distance schools from the pressures of parents and communities or, at best, to see parents as little involved supporters of the work of the school are finding new meaning as parents and the community assume new roles as instructional partners and as sharers in site-level planning/ policymaking. Such reforms do not occur without the need to resolve important administrative and political issues in parent-professional relationships, in the alteration of institutional traditions and proce-dures, in the preparation of teachers and administra-tors, and in the creative managerial building of new linkages between school and community. This volume is organized in two parts. Part I examines changing school-community interactions in historical and theoretical perspective-paying special attention to evolving questions of effective school admin-istration, changes in the local politics of school admin-istration, parental-interaction effects on the schools, and the law vis-à-vis school-community relations. Part Il turns to specific questions of administrative practice in the improvement of community relations-including school-site planning, strategies of parental involvement, the direct management of community relations, and school outreach toward the community. There is throughout the book an examination of alternative perspectives on school and community, and some administrative insights to be gained from each alternative. Furthermore, each chapter concludes with a set of exercises, activities, and further suggested resources to assist the reader toward added understanding. «2018» Take a close look at the auction images for details of contents and condition.
