Description: 1992 Russell New York Mets Tom Filer jersey road size 46 (Between L & XL) Authentic Diamond Collection Game worn & Team Issued with the insanely rare 1992 shea patch! In fantastic pre-owned condition Filer started the 1992 season pitching for the Mets top minor league affiliate the Tidewater Tides before being called up in July. He made his Met debut on the July 4th starting against the Houston Astros but was sent down to the minors after a few games. During this time he wore number 44, it appears this jersey was prepared later in 1992 in the event he was called back up, however another player was likely already wearing the number 44 after he wouldve been called back up thus it was changed to 49. You can still see the remnants of the 4 underneath the 9, pretty cool. Multiple players wore 44 & 49 in the 1992 season for some reason, Joe Vitko & Mike Birkbeck wore 49, Ryan Thompson, Tom Filer & Tim Burke wore 44 hence the number change. The equipment manager did begin to prepare to remove the 4 on the back and then stopped. It appears that the #4 on the back is still glued down but the white stitching was cut.
