He showed all the exuberance of someone claiming a new continent. We who watched felt he could have been, the land was so alien. Charles Van Riper, scientist and head of an expedition this summer on the Island of Hawaii, processes a tiny elepaio, as volunteer team member Jack Worthen of San Francisco assists.
