If you are a beginner, pick one of the easy patterns such as Tiki or Tranquillity. Advanced macraméists will enjoy the challenge of creating the intricate designs of the fabulous Wintry Illusion. The fine polypropylene cord used to create the projects in this book is very inexpensive. Although the required yardages for some projects may seem large the cost is minimal compared to the price of coarser cords. Tables for some of your projects can be made using framed or ground edge mirror, ¼" glass, plexiglass or plastic. Synthetic Cords Polypropylene is a favorite cord with many macraméists. Not only is this cord inexpensive but it is widely available in a large variety of brilliant colors and white cord can be dyed to produce any subtle pastel shade. Because of the various properties of this cord I would suggest you use polypropylene whenever possible for the projects contained in this book. Polypropylene knots beautifully and does not tangle as easily as most cords If you should find a cord becoming too short simply add on the needed length by melting ends together. Instead of using messy glue the ends can be slightly melted and folded back inside your work. To prevent fraying of ends while working you may simply singe the ends before starting your knotting. All projects in this book were created using inexpensive 3-ply 4mm polypropylene cord. If you must use a substitute choose a synthetic cord or jute of similar thickness Remember polypropylene and most other synthetic cords stretch slightly when a lot of weight is added, so your finished project should be a few inches shorter than you want it. The addition of a glass table or heavy pot will stretch your work to the desired length. Take a close look at the auction images for details of contents and condition.
