Description: Railroad passenger train public timetable from the former Central of Georgia Railway Company; this timetable is dated January 1966. The Central was the dominant railroad in Georgia for many decades, serving the major cities of Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta, Columbus and Macon; it also served many smaller cities and towns. The railroad extended into eastern Alabama and southern Tennessee. Like most regional lines, it has financial issues and was ultimately acquired by the Southern Railway System in the 1960s; its surviving trackage today is operated primarily by Norfolk Southern. 1966 January - Central of Georgia Railway - railroad timetable, Southern Railway Click images to enlarge Description Railroad passenger train public timetable from the former Central of Georgia Railway Company; this timetable is dated January 1966. The Central's premier train was the "Nancy Hanks", which ran daily between Savannah, Macon and Atlanta. It also operated the "Man O' War" daily between Albany, Columbus and Atlanta. The Central, in conjunction with the Illinois Central (IC) and the Atlantic Coast Line (ACL) railroads, operated portions of the "City of Miami" and the "Seminole" between Chicago and Florida; the Central's portion was between Birmingham and Albany. Schedules for these trains are listed by station served, with arrival/departure times; there is an equipment manifest for the "City of Miami" and "The Flamingo". The publication lists also freight-only runs on the Central; and the freight schedule for the connecting Wrightsville & Tennille Railroad, and Louisville & Wadley Railroad. A listing of all stations on the Central; period railroad advertising; and the names/addresses of various sales office personnel. There is also a nice 2-page map of the Southeast, showing the Central's lines and those of various connecting roads. The timetable measures appx 9x4 inches and contains 12 pages. Best yet, it is UNUSED and in EXCELLENT CONDITION: it has no writing or markings, no rips or tears, and no spills or smears. The only flaw is minor rusting of the binding staples. A great souvenir for Central of Georgia railfans and for collectors of predecessor lines of the Southern and the Norfolk Southern. Pictures sell!
