Description: The program is in near mint condition with no significant flaws. All of the pages are secure and have no tears or cutouts. Numerous pictures were taken to assist with the condition and content of the program. The 1961 Western North Carolina 500 was held at Asheville-Weaverville Speedway on August 13th. The 38-car field was led by Jim Paschal on the pole. The 500 lap race was held in front of 10,000 fans. Junior Johnson won this race after it was flagged at 258 laps due to impossible track conditions. Finishing second was Joe Weatherly, followed by Rex White, Ned Jarrett, and Emanuel Zervakis. A near riot ensued after the race with teams and drivers unable to leave the track for nearly four hours. Four spectators were treated in nearby hospitals, and several arrests were made due to the unrest. Please review the other racing items I have listed at the eBay store, The Checkered Past. I will combine shipping and provide a refund on shipping charges for anything over cost. Thanks!
