Description: This is a PSA 6 EX-MT, 1956 Topps #208 baseball card of beloved and legendary New York Yankees catcher, Elston "Ellie" Howard, the first African American to play for the Yankees, joining the squad 8 years after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier across the river in Brooklyn. In 1963 Howard also became the first African American to win the AL's MVP Award. Over the course of his 14 year playing career Howard earned 12 All-Star honors and 2 Gold Glove Awards. He also was a 6-time World Series Champion with the Yankees, 4 times as a player and twice as a coach.
