A Causeway for Bridge Builders, which has been constructed from the north bank of the Missouri river just east of the Fairfax bridge, is not destined to be part of the final structure. It will provide access to one of the bridge piers, which will be poured inside the coffer dam of steel pilings at the far end of the causeway. After the new bridge is completed, the earthen causeway will be cleared away by dredges. Some motorists crossing the present bridge have seen the causeway as part of the new bridge.
