Description: For the Baseball Hobbyist. . . 1955-1975 Card Commemorating Final Year of Oakland Oaks Baseball [#33] BOB SWIFT Issued in 1975 on 20th anniversary by longtime Topps photographer Doug McWilliams About the pictured player: BOB SWIFT (1915-1966) batted .258 over 8 minor league seasons. In 1955 he hit .278 as a 40-year-old in part-time action for the Oaks. Also a major leaguer, Bob saw action (totaling more than 1000 games) with the Saint Louis Browns (1940-42), Philadelphia Athletics (1942-43) and Detroit Tigers (1944-53). He skippered the Motor City club for parts of 1965 and '66. This card was issued by longtime photographer Doug McWilliams to commemorate the final season of the Oakland Oaks Pacific Coast League Baseball Club. It was issued in 1975 - twenty years after the Oaks played their final game. The card measures approximately 2-1/4" by 3-1/4", features a white border all around with black and white photograph. The player's name is in all capital letters at the bottom of the card and below that (in italics) is: Oaks and the man's position on the team. At first blush, the cards resemble very much vintage cards such as those by Remar Baking Company, Smith's (clothiers) and Sommer & Kaufmann. The back carries player name, vital statistics and major league experience (if applicable) and the logo "1955 20 1975" - all in blue. The card is unnumbered but has been assigned a number based upon its alphabetical order. This is an interesting item for longtime followers of the old Pacific Coast League (especially the Oakland Oaks) and is a tough-to-find commemorative issue. Condition is Near-Mint or better. ANY number of single cards (up to and including 8" X 10" in size) will ship for the one single card USPS Ground Advantage cost IF the buyer will request and wait for a combined invoice before paying. Also available is eBay standard envelope service for qualifying orders. Questions? Email us. _______________________ Important: Shipping Information A goal has always been to keep shipping costs low.
