It is dated 1954 and was signed by Deputy Governor John Robert Beattie and Governor Louis Rasminsky. Canada has long since dispensed with one-dollar bills in favor of the "Loonie" $1 coin, and no longer prints or circulates them. In 1954 when these notes first came out, some people fancied they saw a leering demonic face in the highlights of the Queen's hair. The engraving was changed during the earlier Beattie-Coyne signature combination to remove the "Devil's Face" and this is the "Modified Portrait".
