Description: STORY OF THE PRESIDENTS Of The United States Of America Written and illustrated by Maud and Miska Petersham. Published by The Macmillan Company, New York. Copyright 1953; “First Printing” is stated on the copyright page. “These favorite author-artists have given children many beautiful books. In the “This is America” books which present America’s rich heritage to young readers, they have made an outstanding contribution.” ”These short, intimate biographies truly tell the story of the United States…” From Wikipedia: Maud Fuller Petersham (August 5, 1890 – November 29, 1971) and Miska Petersham (September 20, 1888 – May 15, 1960) were American writers and illustrators who helped set the direction for illustrated children's books as known today. The Petershams worked closely with such pioneering children's book editors as Louise Seaman Bechteland May Massee, and with such innovative printers as Charles Stringer and William Glaser. They worked as a seamless partnership for more than five decades. Both prolific and versatile, they produced illustrations for more than 120 trade and textbooks, anthologies, and picture books. Of the 50 books they both wrote and illustrated, many were recognized with important awards or critical acclaim. They are known for technical excellence, exuberant color, and the introduction of international folk and modernist themes. DESCRIPTION: 80 pages 10 1/4 x 8 inches First printing, hardcover with dustjacket CONDITION: This hard-cover book is in very good condition with a good dustjacket. The grayish or taupe cloth hardcover is clean and shows only slight wear at the corners and spine ends. Other than a school stamp on the front pastedown, the interior is excellent with no names, marks, underlining, tears or odor. The paper shows slight age-toning. The hinges and binding are excellent with no loose or missing pages. The dustjacket is complete with price intact on the front flap, but is chipped in the head and food of the spine area and in the lower front corner. It is rubbed and a bit worn at the edges and corners. There are several small tears along the edges which have been stabilized on the back with acid-free archival tissue tape. There is a stray pen-mark across the face of the eagle on the front panel. This dustjacket will come protected in a new Brodart mylar dustjacket protector. From the dust jacket description: ’In this book two great artists have told the stories of these men from Washington to Eisenhower,—intimate biographies with many pictures to give readers a glimpse of their personalities and their backgrounds. In these tories is reflected the history of our country, its prosperity and hard times, war and peace, problems and good fortunes. We see, in fact, the story of the United States of America.” BECAUSE MEDIA RATE SHIPPING IS FREE ON THE BOOKS I SELL, COMBINE THIS WITH OTHER ITEMS FROM MY EBAY STORE.
