Collated complete. In the publisher's original cloth with the original clipped scarce dust wrapper. This work features a collection of letters written by Jane Austen to her sister Cassandra and others, collected and then edited for this work by R. W. Chapman. Cassandra was a amateur watercolour painter and created the frontispiece painting of her sister. These letters have helped historians figure out the life of Austen however as Cassandra destroyed most of her other letters from her sister in order to keep details of her life private, causing much of Janes life to be lost to history. The wrap is generally smart with sunning to the spine, marks to the boards, small chips and small closed tears to the head and tail and the odd small tidemark to the spine. Offsetting and the odd spot to the verso. Internally firmly bound with clean and generally bright pages. Postcard with photograph of Jane Austen's grave loosely inserted.
