Description: Rare 8-page illustrated pamphlet charging that blacks and workers were excluded from the grand jury which indicted the 17 leaders of the Communist Party for violation of the Smith Act. In 1951 U.S. Communist Party leader Pettis Perry and 16 other Communist leaders were indicted under the Smith Act for allegedly advocating the overthrow of the United States government. Two years later, a federal jury found Perry and 12 other defendants guilty. This eight-page Communist pamphlet documents the racism of the legal proceedings. The entire pamphlet is pictured in photos. Perry was sentenced to three years in prison. He was released in May 1957
