Platts & Sons Cutlery Company ( Western Knife Company’s or Western Cutlery predecessor ) is a manufacturer of hunting knives founded by Charles Platts and his five sons in 1869. It changed its name to Western Knife Company in 1911 and moved to Boulder, Colorado. The company is probably best known for its "Bowie" style hunting knives. The knife has the blade forged from the fine carbon steel. The handle has the full tang constructed with alternating polished aluminum & tough black fiber discs and double bolstered with double pins to sure fitting for durability, strength, & balance. The ax has the fully forged design invented by Arthur E. Keating with the patent number 1,830,663 issued on Nov 3rd, 1931. Western Cutlery introduced F-Series ( black beauty series ) knives & ax - knife combination with alternating aluminum/black fiber handle in the mid 1950s.
