Description: This is a scarce piece of Americana! We are very excited to have found such a gorgeous item in such fabulous condition AND WITH THE KEY that fits all three locks. It dates back to the days of long leisurely travel across America by train, before the advent of the aeroplane and short flights of a only couple of hours in the air, rather than a couple of days on a sleeper train. These overnight cases were called train cases for those longer journeys and contained space for all that was needed, space for jewelry, toiletries, personal possessions etc in the top and nightwear and change of clothes in the bottom. Shortrip was a high end brand which made exquisite train cases, in a very elegant and desirable style which is much sought after today and this is one of them. Not many are still to be found in such good condition, they are very rare indeed and a case of this quality bought today would cost thousands (and not have the exclusivity factor or the glamour attached to such a vintage piece). This particular train case has survived in excellent condition. To the outside there are a few knocks to corners, a slight discoloration to the outside leather and some tarnish to the hardware. Below the handle are the embossed initials E.F.C. which, if your name does not match those initials, we suggest could be covered in a small brass plate in the same style as the Shortrip plaque with own initials. The inside shows little to no wear. Inside the lid is leather covered with a large fixed mirror in very good condition. The top layer has glass bottles and jars with lids, some minor abrasions to the bottle lids but nothing to spoil the look of them as they are still shiny. One lid has a slit in the side. These fit into the case in neat compartments with one empty, the compartments under the bottles/jars have just a few marks from age and use. There is a jewelry section still with its brown velvet pad, with a couple of combs and Emery boards that have not been used. In addition, there are two additional compartments for small personal items which are immaculate with no signs of use. One compartment has a new old stock NOS bar of royal secret soap that appears to be original to the case. The other compartment is empty. The name Shortrip and confirmation it is leather is embossed on the center compartment. The bottom section of the case is deeper and lined in a dark brown, watered silk effect grosgrain fabric, there is a long ruched pocket along one side for small items. It is immaculate with no signs of use to the inside. The elastic in the compartments is still very good. Furthermore, the bottom section has a pair of size 9D black house slippers and a small black zipper bag that appeared to have never been used. Another positive is that it will fit a 13" Macbook and still leave room for overnight things. A superb example of an iconic 50s train case by Shortrip, a sought after high end brand, in a very desirable size, but for sheer glamour. This Shortrip Train Case is 14.5" Wide x 10.5" Deep x 7" Tall. The key is shown in the second picture.
