Description: This beautiful vase was made in Japan shortly after the end of WW2 during the time period known as the "Japanese Economic Miracle", which was Japan's record period of economic growth between the post-World War II era and the end of the Cold War. During the economic boom, Japan rapidly became the world's second-largest economy (after the United States). The U.S. government spent large amounts of money re-constructing Japan's manufacturing infrastructure, and exported objects like this were the result. The vase features foliage and fruits/vegetables including strawberries, peaches, oranges, bunches of grapes, ears of corn, and quince fruit. A bird is perched on the upper front right side of the vase. Everything is spackled with and outlined in gold gilt, and painted in green, orange, brown, and pink, with the bare white porcelain of the vase showing as well. There are two small loop holes on the left side, designed for a string to hang the vase, or maybe to affix a handle, but they were never made or shipped with a handle or string and it was a purely artistic choice. It is in excellent condition, although there is some slight crazing of the glaze, which is typical of objects of this type. There are no chips or cracks, and only very minimal, not noticeable tiny abrasions almost too small for the eye to see. Overall, it's in nearly mint condition for one of these mid-century Japanese vases. A lovely, 70-year-old display piece for your home or a gift for a Japanese porcelain lover! I offer free local pickup if you are close enough to my area (Morgantown W.V.).
