He then traveled to Japan to attend a Japanese High School there. He then started his baseball career in Japan, signing from the "All Kyoto" amateur team. He preceded fellow Hawaiian Wally Yonamine by a couple years, and his first season with the Tigers he played for fellow Hawaiian Bozo Wakabayashi who was their player-manager. Mostly used as a pinch hitter he had a career .253 average with 13 HRs.
