Description: FOR the complete story, FULL DETAILS and BIG CLEAR PICTURES, Please SEE THE DESCRIPTION 1944 W.W. II >Original SILVER "50 KORUN" of SLOVAKIA >Only YEAR of DENOMINATION Description This is a nice, almost uncirculated, original, single year only type and denomination, silver, "50 Korun" from the World War II era, short-lived, "Republic of Slovakia". It was struck in 1944 only to celebrate 5 Years of “Independence”. The “First Republic of Slovakia” only lasted from March 3, 1939 until April 4, 1945. After the English Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, and the French Prime Minister, Édouard Daladier, bought Hitler's lies at Munich, the "Republic of Slovakia" was formed by force and became a German "Puppet Government" during the war. It was led by Josef Tiso, pictured on the coin. He was a Roman Catholic priest and after the war he was hung for crimes against humanity. Weight: 16.56 Grams, 34 Millimeters, .700 Silver. Mintage: 2,000,000. "Standard Catalog of World Coins" (1901-2000) by Krause-Mishler. #10. Obverse: VERNI SEBI-SVORNE NAPRED • Believe in Yourself – Forward. •/• 1939 14 III 1944 • Anniversary dates: 1939 - March 14, - 1944. • Josef Tiso. Tiso lost all remnants of power when the Soviet Red Army conquered the last parts of western Slovakia in April of 1945. He fled first to Austria, then to a Capuchin monastery in Altötting, Bavaria. In June of 1945, he was arrested by the Americans and extradited to the reconstituted Czechoslovakia to stand trial. On April 15, 1947, the Czechoslovak National Court found him guilty and sentenced him to death for "state treason, betrayal of the antifascist partisan insurrection and collaboration with Nazism". He was hung on April 18, 1947. Reverse: SLOVENSKA REPUBLIKA • 50 • Ks • small: Kr at the bottom is the Kremnica mint mark. • Double cross on shield within wreath. The “Double Cross” arms of Slovakia consists of a double cross standing on the middle peak of a mountain with three peaks. The double cross represents Slovakia’s Christian heritage, brought to the region by Saints Cyril and Methodius, Byzantine missionaries in the 9th century. The three peaks symbolize the Tatra, Fatra, and Matra mountain ranges. The Coin: This one circulated a bit and shows light wear on the high spots. It still retains some cartwheel luster. It has never been cleaned. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself. Remember, FREE SHIPPING to the USA!
