Description: In this November 21, 1944 typed letter signed, President Roosevelt warmly expresses his thanks to William T. Byrne (1876-1952), a Member of the House of Representatives from New York. The letter reads: "Dear Bill: That was a very nice note you sent to me just after the Election. I am grateful for yours and Mrs. Byrne's good wishes. With kindest regards to you and Mrs. Byrne and I hope that I shall see you very soon." Signed with initials in black ink: "F.D.R." Typed on an 8 7/8" x 7" sheet of "The White House Washington" imprinted stationery. Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945) became the 32nd U.S. President in 1933 and served until his death in 1945. Byrne rarely spoke on the floor of the House, but was active as a staunch supporter of the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration's New Deal and World War II initiatives. Byrne had been a friend of the Roosevelt family since the early 1920s (was a New York State senator), and frequently visited the governor's mansion during Roosevelt's governorship.
