Description: Vintage color lithographed 1942 wartime map acknowledging the eight South American republics that had severed ties with the axis powers and pointing out the two that had not broken off relations with the enemies of the United States — Argentina and Chile. The map is titled "Loyal South America" and measures a generous 40.6 x 54.5 cm [16" x 21½"]. It was published in the February 11, 1942, edition of the Chicago Daily Tribune. The text block also describes the recent territorial settlement adjusting the border line between Peru and Ecuador. The map is copyrighted by Rand McNally & Company, Chicago, and has a distance scale calibrated in statute miles. There's an inset of the Galapagos Islands. Condition: This map is in very good, lightly folded condition, with a chip in the upper margin and no marks, rips, or tears. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. It folds to approximately 9" x 6½" and the paper has toned a bit with age. Both Chile and Argentina would later break relations with Germany, Italy, and Japan. Chile in 1943, and Argentina in 1944.
