1940 Play Ball #30 Moe Berg SGC Authentic (AUTH) Personal Collection Pedigree

Description: 1940 Play Ball #30 Moe Berg -- SGC Authentic Exclusively from Moe Berg's Personal Collection (#44 of 59) This is one of 59 cards personally collected by Moe Berg and his brother, Sam Berg. This particular example has been graded Authentic by SGC (serial #1236477-044) and has been specially pedigreed as belonging to the "Moe Berg Collection". A tamper-proof hologram (numbered 44/59) has been affixed to the SGC holder and matches the hologram on the Certificate of Authenticity/Provenance that accompanies the card (see images above and below). This card, among others, spanning the years from 1933 to 1940, was obtained directly from the assemblage of Moe Berg's personal papers, books, and files in 2006. The collection was shipped from the origin directly to SGC to be encapsulated along with a notarized letter from the trustee of the Moe Berg estate so that the chain-of-ownership was preserved. Moe Berg's on- and especially off-the-field adventures are that of legend. Berg was commissioned by the OSS as a spy both during major league baseball's "Tour of Japan" in 1934 (allegedly) as well as on subsequent missions in Yugoslavia, Italy, and Switzerland. Berg's efforts helped direct troop movements/allied bombing attacks and provided the United States with vital information about Germany's WWII nuclear weapons project. For his efforts, he was awarded the Medal of Freedom. These events are portrayed in the major Hollywood movie, "The Catcher Was a Spy."
