That's the best description of this vintage folder toned coin that glows luster from beneath the toning. Although toned, it is still bright and shiny. The entire coin is toned, not just the bronze/black areas. The light areas of the obverse appear white/silver in color when viewed straight on like my scanner, but when the coin is tilted, you can see light bronze or copper or maybe violet (under artificial light). The reverse is whiter as you move towards the center of the coin and has more toning than the scans show. The rim/lettering areas are light bronze except for around the word QUARTER, and there is the speckled or mottled milky toning like you see on proof coins. The best analog I can suggest to look at this type of speckled milky toning of the reverse is on the 1940 Washington I have paired with the 1940 S. The last image in this listing is for that 1940 coin. The milky toning does nothing to detract from the appearance of the coin, almost gives it a camouflage appearance and the white gives it central brightness. A high-quality camera could really bring this coin to life. Also, looks like the coin has a re-punched mint mark, but it is not a great one and the two punches are almost right on top of each other, and I didn't want to advertise it without being able to show it well. That mint mark is tall - a really deep punch, and notice how flat the top of it is, squared off. Very few marks on this coin, it hasn't been shuffled around and mishandled and resold 20 times. Might be worth the risk/expense of getting this coin certified to potentially upgrade it in value and preserve it. The kind of coin that keeps me interested.
