Description: ULTRA RARE AND INTERESTING BOOK ON THE ARCTIC, THE ESKIMOS, AND AURORA BOREALIS AND AURORA AUTRALIS, SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR!! Authored by Harold E. O'Neill, First Edition published by Burney Brothers Publishing Company in Aurora, Missouri (a town name a coincidence, or not?) in 1937. NICELY INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, HAROLD E. O'NEILL. Needless to say, I can't find any other signed copies to compare signatures. I have no reason to believe the inscription and autograph are not authentic. The book is in GOOD CONDITION, with the wear issues associated with the dust jacket and the back board. The dust jacket has several chips and chunks along the edges, with four damage areas on the back (see listing photo), now functional with an attractive front cover illustration encased in a mylar jacket. The orange cloth boards with black titling is clean and lightly worn, except for the back board where the damage is. There were 4 small concave indents on the back board where something pressed into the dust jacket and left these small craters in the back board with some soiling around the craters - see the listing photo. These indents did not pierce the endpaper behind the back board, and there was no impact to interior pages at all - the only damage is to the surface of the back board. 327 clean and solidly bound pages with an interior section of photos. The author provided an 8-page Introduction providing the motivation behind his explorations and crediting all those along the way. Here is a brief passage from that Intro giving a sense of what this book is about: "..So the Auroral Drama came into existence. I think it is the only book of its kind. Its purpose is a veridical dissemination of data, opinions and interpretations with respect to the Aurora Borealis and the Auroral Australis and with that thought in mind it is written so that there may be ready understanding. Much has been written about the phenomenon but most of it has been in the heavy, stilted words of the scientists. I am not a scientist and I could not have written in that vein if I had desired... This is not fiction. The embraced stories are true and none of the many names which appear is fictitious." B131
