Description: This Lili Alvarez card #1 from the 1927/1928 Amatller Automovilismo set has wear to the card but no creases. There is a stamp on the back of the card and some staining. Numerous pictures were taken to assist with the condition and content of the card. This issue of the Amatller Automovilismo set consists of 23 cards featuring prominent drivers in Europe and the Catalonia region. Amatller is a chocolate company based in Barcelona, Spain, since 1797 and continues to operate today. They would include these cards with the purchase of their chocolate. The front of the card features the driver/riding mechanic while the back of the card has driver information written in Spanish. Lili Alvarez was born in 1905 and competed in multiple sports to include winning an automobile race in Catalonia at only 19 years old. Her record as a competitive driver ended early when her focus changed to tennis. She was the first woman from Spain to compete in the Olympics in 1924 and would reach the Wimbledon finals from 1926-1928. Alvarez was ranked #2 in the world in 1927 and 1928. She would become a journalist and author following her tennis career. Please review the other racing items I have listed at the eBay store, The Checkered Past. I will combine shipping and provide a refund on shipping charges for anything over cost. Thanks!
