Description: Bryson College existed between 1919 and 1929. In 1929, it formally closed and transferred students to nearby Erskine College and Seminary. From an online historical description: "After the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church had founded Erskine College at Due West, South Carolina in 1839, congregations that had moved west into Tennessee, Arkansas, and Alabama began planning a college for youth in their region. The result was the selection of Fayetteville, a small town in south central Tennessee, as the location for a college. Classes began there in the fall of 1919... ... The aim of Bryson College was “to discipline the mind, to build strong Christian character, and to develop symmetrical men and women.” As a result, students had strong chapters of the YMCA and YWCA that sent delegates to a regional volunteer conference. Additionally, there were two literary societies—Wilsonian and Victorian—each with male and female components. The glee club and orchestra performed comic operettas in 1922 and 1928 and an Easter cantata in 1927. Bryson students engaged in debates both between the literary societies and against David Lipscomb College and Middle Tennessee Normal." This listing is for "The Bridge" Vol VI, 1927, the yearbook for the college. It is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. Olive green/grayish textured leatherette flexible hard boards with a gilt inlay of a school cover on the front cover. There is some light wear top and bottom of the spine. The previous owner name and year was inked on first free endpaper. There are additional signatures and inscriptions within the book. There are 88 clean and solidly bound pages followed by 16 unnumbered pages of advertisements. There are light foxing marks throughout, mostly first and last few pages. BONUS: Founded in the book were 4 identical mimeographed letters on Bryson letterhead dated 4/6/1927. Each letter was addressed, "To whom it may be presented:" and appear to be recommendation letters for the owner of this yearbook, perhaps letters that the yearbook owner prepared for her professors to sign.
