Description: This is a 1926 University of Wisconsin Badger yearbook in good condition. There are individual photos of each graduate (Class of 1925) receiving an undergraduate degree. There are many campus photos included in this unusually thick volume. There are group photos of societies and sports teams, including the varsity football team (pictured on page 220). A list of Phi Beta Kappa members is included on page 424. There is a special section at the beginning of the yearbook in which distinguished alumni are pictured. These include Marie C. Kohler (pictured on page 189), and Walter Kohler (pictured on page 190). Dr. A.J. Ochsner (of Ochsner Health) appears on page 192. Wikipedia writes: Marie Christine Kohler (July 13, 1876 – October 11, 1943) was a member of the Kohler familiy of Wisconsin and was prominent in the community life of Sheboygan and Kohler, active in social work and better homes projects, and was well known for her philanthropic deeds.The Kohler family of Wisconsin is a family notable for its prominence in business, society and politics in the U.S. state of Wisconsin during the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. Miss Kohler was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin (1901). For a number of year she taught English literature at the Sheboygan High School, and she was secretary of the Kohler Company from 1905 to 1909. Kohler was instrumental in construction of the Waelderhaus in the Village of Kohler. It was designed as a tribute to the tradition of Bregenzerwald (forest of Bregenz) Province of Vorarlberg, Austria. The name Waelderhaus (ger. wälderhaus) means forest house. The building was dedicated to the use of the girl scouts upon completion in 1931. She started the Girl Scouts movement at Kohler in 1919.Miss Kohler was one of the organizers of the American Association of University Women In 1924 and presided at its first meeting. She was president of the Wisconsin Conference of Social work at the time the state legislature passed the children's code and she was very influential in the passage of the code. Walter Jodok Kohler Jr. (April 4, 1904 – March 21, 1976) was a member of the Kohler family of Wisconsin and was the 33rd Governor of Wisconsin serving three terms from 1951 to 1957. He was a leading figure in state and national Republican Party activities. His role in the clash between Senator Joseph R. McCarthy and presidential candidate Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952 has interested historians for decades. He was also a distinguished Naval officer in World War II. Alton Ochsner Sr. (May 4, 1896 – September 24, 1981) was an American surgeon and medical researcher who worked at Tulane University and other New Orleans hospitals before he established The Ochsner Clinic. Now known as Ochsner Medical Center, the clinic is the flagship hospital of Ochsner Health Systems. Alton Ochsner was recruited to Tulane from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The yearbook: The yearbook is in good condition. There is a series of very nice etchings of campus scenes at the front of the book, as well as colorful graphics throughout. Pages 443-446 are detached but present. There are no binding issues. There is some mild foxing on a few pages. It has 656 pages. The cover is brown fabric over hardcover boards with gold, green and light red decoration. It measures 12 1/8 " tall by 9 1/2 " wide and 2 1/4" thick. Several students signed their names in the front of the book. It is volume 40.
