In the driver's seat of one of four Duesenbergs entered in this first Grand Prix after the end of World War I, Murphy drove to the first all-American Grand Prix wina feat that would not be repeated until Dan Gurney drove his American Eagle to the checkered flag in the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix.
