Vicente Blasco Ibanez (1867-1928) was a Spanish politician and novelist whose fame in the English-speaking world mostly comes from Hollywood films adapted from his works. His book, Los cuatro jinetes del Apocalipsis (The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse) was first published in 1916 and tells the story of French and German sons-in-law of an Argentinian land-owner who fight on opposite sides in World War I. The 1921 film adaptation by Rex Ingram was the film that made a star of Rudolph Valentino. Nicely rebound, half gilt-stamped navy leather with marbled paper over boards, 4 raised bands, top edge gilt, patterned end papers, 398 pages, original wraps bound-in. Text is in Spanish. Includes a transmittal envelope addressed to the previous owner, Cuyler Reynolds (1866-1934), a well-regarded journalist and author who was also the Albany City Historian. 7 ¾” x 5 ¼”.
