Description: FOR the complete story, FULL DETAILS and BIG CLEAR PICTURES, Please SEE THE DESCRIPTION 1915 TAXCO in ZAPATA’S GUERRERO "Revolutionary" MEXICO >Gold & Silver Description This is a nice, original, near if not fully brilliant uncirculated, but with a partially weak strike, which may have been the reason it got set aside, supposedly .300 fine gold and silver, “Un or One Peso” from the Mexican "State of Guerrero". These emergency issues were struck in Taxco, Guerrero only in 1915. The famous “Emiliano Zapata” was one of the foremost leaders of the Mexican Revolution. As the leader of the “Liberation Army of the South” Zapata and his forces operated extensively in Guerrero at this time when he and Pancho Villa were allied with Venustiano Carranza and the "Constitutionalist Army" in the north fighting Victoriano Huerta, another general, who had assassinated the President and Vice-President of Mexico in 1913 and seized power. Weight: 12.78 Grams, 30 Millimeters, .300 Gold and Silver. Mintage: Unknown. "Standard Catalog of World Coins" (1901-2000) by Krause-Mishler. #674. Obverse: REPUBLICA MEXICANA •/• UN PESO • Eagle, with snake in beak, standing on a cactus. This, the national symbol of Mexico, stands for the Aztec legend that foretold they were to make a great empire in a marshy area where they would see a cactus with an eagle standing on it eating a snake. The site where this actually happened is now Mexico City. Villa on left and Zapata in the Presidential Palace. By 1915 they had disposed of Huerta and Villa and Zapata had turned against Carranza and were currently fighting a Civil War against him. They victoriously entered the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City on December 4, 1914, but by 1915 they were beginning the series of losses that led, with United States backing, to Carranza's victory. Reverse: REFORMA LIBERTAD JUSTICIA Y LEY • Reform, Liberty, Justice and Law. •/• 1915 •/• TAXCO. GRO. • (star) G. • ORO: 0.300. •/• Resplendado or Liberty Cap on rays above wreath. Edge: Reeded. The Coin: Fully lustrous but with the weak strike. It has some gentle color it has gained in the last century but I don’t think it saw use. Original, it has never been cleaned.
