Description: Hard to find complete original 63-page issue of Boston's Living Age for 28 August 1909. This number I neatly removed from an old bound volume of the magazine. Highlights include (and see photo): Horace G. Hutchinson's "A Pickwick Paper." A longer essay on Charles Dickens's Pickwick. Hugh Clifford's serial novel, "Saleh," here concluded (Chapters 35-7). Alice Meynell's "Swinburne's Lyrical Poetry." This is an essay of some interest. The poet A.C. Swinburne had died earlier in this year. An early story, "Other Kingdom," by the young E.M. Forster. This is the first appearance of the story in America. Forster would later (1911) include the story in his first collection of stories to be published, The Celestial Omnibus. New poems by W.H. Davies, Henry Newbolt and others. An essay on "Country Dancing," others on "The Seaside Life of France," the "Approaching Opposition of Mars," etc. Arnold Bennett's longer essay "The Hotel on the Landscape."
