ORIGINAL ART - PAINTINGThe Gift of the Magi: "Christmastime Town Scene in 1905" artist: Carol HeyerThis is an Original painting by Carol Heyer created for "The Gift of the Magi" - a 32 page children's book illustrated by Heyer but of course based on the famous short story by O. Henry from 1905 - published by Ideals Publishing Company 1994, and widely seen because it was distributed through Walmart! (I show the published book cover and title page for reference) Heyer is well known as an author and illustrator of children's books, with more than 30 to her credit - and several of them relating to the Christmas and Easter Holidays. For this book, Carol produced paintings that reflect the turn-of-the-century setting of O. Henry's classic tale, including her three main characters: Della and Jim, the struggling newlyweds so anxious to give each other a Christmas gift that each sells the one thing the other holds most dear, and Madame Sofronie, the owner of a hair shop where Della sells her hair to pay for a gift for Jim. Wonderful wintry Christmas town scene, as it might have appeared when this story took place. Lovely and painted in acrylic on unstretched canvas 11" x 8.5" and signed by Heyer.
