Description: In 1903 the Mogul cigarette company planned to issue a set of football cards of the big Ivy League Schools. While it is believed the set was never actually issued to consumers, a few of the cards in complete panels were issued through one of the top distributors in America who made Mogul Cigarettes, S. Anargyros. In the entire collecting hobby one complete uncut panel set with header had been found of the Princeton University team players, and we have recently discovered a complete set of Harvard players. Our set is different as it was in a salesman's sample book and each card was separated (as it was most likely panning on issuing them individually and the panels were for distributors to see the cards), affixed in the book with a tiny dot of glue on the back, and with the card numbers written in pencil on the front by the distributor which further lends to the theory that this was a test issue or prototype from 1903 that was never actually issued at point of sale stores. Each card is in great shape overall with note to the glue dot and pencil number. No other cards or complete sets of the Harvard team is known to exist. Each card carries the Mogul cigarette name on the front and the name of the player inset into a football with the red Harvard background. Without a doubt, this is a football "T-Card" set and had they been found earlier would be cataloged into price guides with enormous values, but being a newly discovered set, little is known about them other than what we have described here.
