18th Century Circle PORTRAIT OF A WOMAN by Camauër? Oil PARIS French School Oval

Description: This beautiful, original 18th century oil painting features a captivating portrait of a smiling French woman in flowing blue-green velvet cape over a tan dress. She drapes fabric over her head, keeping a veil over her beautiful, curly locks. Her smiling face, lit up by two big blue eyes, features simultaneously pearly and rosy complexions. The painting is masterfully crafted in oil upon canvas. It measures 14 inches in height, 12 inches in width, and about 3 inches deep. The artwork is signed by its creator, which to the discerning eye appears to be “G. Camauër,” which could mean Godefroid. It is believed to hail from the 18th century, maybe French School in origin, although if the multitalented composer-intellectual Godefroid Camauër of Huy painted this, it would place the date as late as the 1835-1845 range. However, the period garb of the subject would indicate an origin date of much earlier (1700s), so the Camauër who painted this is likely an earlier ancestor. The painting has received no restoration that we can identify and comes framed in stunning period gilt wood, handmade in Paris with handcut stretcher crossbars and wedges (label adhered to rear frame shows a clear Parisian origin).
