This bayonet is an upgraded version of the 1892/93 eliminating the humpback hilt and pronounced pommel beak. Also, the year of production was included with the maker mark. Overall, this bayonet is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age. The press catch is functional with average spring tension. The pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have oxidation and scrapes. The finish was in the white, but has started to turn a gray patina color. The rivets securely fasten the wood grip panels. The grips have light compressions and draglines. They have darkened with time. The blade's spine and fullers have a couple impact marks, oxidation and scrapes. There are no nicks or dings on the blades edge and it appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The finish was in the white, but has turned a gray patina color. The left ricasso is marked "ARTILLERIA / Fca DE TOLEDO / 1898" and the left side guard is marked with the serial number "D 9264". The scabbard is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The leather belt loop has cracks, wrinkles and is starting to dry it. It looks brittle and we recommend NOT using it to preserve its integrity. It is securely fastened to the leather body with two rivets that have oxidized. The body has no rips or tears and the stitching is sewn tightly, however, the leather has dried out and is somewhat delicate too. The chape is securely attached, but has a little wiggle due to the leather shrinking from time. The chape has erosion, oxidation and scrapes. Some of the finish still remains. There are no visible markings. This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your Spanish rifle, or a bayonet collection in general.
