Description: Virginia City and Red Bluff Stage Coach Company, Montana 6 July 1894 Way Bill with 21 Entries - Very Historical - 129 year old! This is a very rare original 11 x 17 inch Way Bill issued by the Virginia City and Red Bluff Stage Company of Virginia City, Montana and dated 6 July 1894. The front side of Way Bill number 161 has the name of the driver of the stagecoach from Virginia City to Red Bluff. The 21 entries on the reverse side of this 129 year old way bill record shipments of packages, cans and even a box of butter between Virginia City, Ennis, Meadow Creek, and/or Red Bluff. Two passengers (Charles Stewart and Mrs. Burrows) were picked up on the way in Norris and dropped off in Red Bluff. Virginia City, Montana was a thriving gold mining town and Simeon R. Buford (SRB initials on this way bill) operated the largest store in Virginia City selling groceries, liquor and general merchandise. He also was a rancher and owned part of the stage coach line. Washington Bar was a mining camp run by the Charles and Esther (Etta) Pinckney (Pinckney on this way bill), who shipped a lot of merchandise using the Virginia City and Red Bluff Stage Company. Red Bluff was a mining town and stage coach station on the Bozeman Trail or Road. A place called Norris, also mentioned on this document, was the Alex Norris Ranch about three miles west of Red Bluff. The small piece of paper notes the stops made between Virginia City and Red Bluff and the total number of packages on board the stage coach for each stop.
