Description: Small lot of W.G. Mandeville, Jr. Photographer Lowville N.Y. ephemera including portrait proofs, envelopes, and form letter on letterhead. All comes in a W.G Mandeville envelopes: Photographic Studio 130 State Street, Lowville N.Y. The envelope was sent to Mr E.C. Gaylord Lyons Falls N.Y. It is postmarked, I believe, 1893. "Proof of Viola Gaylords first picture and others" is written on the envelope. Two sent stamp is affixed. Letter is a form letter from the studio - nice letterhead on the upper left corner. Mandeville tells that the finished photos will look much better than the proofs enclosed. Keep the proofs from strong light. Please remember that cloudy days delay finishing photographs., etc. Part of the letterhead is missing and there are several tears in the paper. Then there is a smaller orange envelope with the Mandeville insignia. This envelope holds the proofs. Inside the orange envelope is a thin paper envelope that is pretty much fallen apart and partially missing. One of the proofs appears to have taken on some of the printing on the envelope. Proofs: Two dark proofs of who I believe is Viola Gaylord. The photos I took of the proofs look much lighter than they are as the flash helped brighten the images. Measures about 5 1/2" x 3 3/4". Two other proofs of the same size that are very hard to see images on. Two smaller proofs of a woman. Both are very dark. One has part of the envelope printing on it (see photos). These measure about 4 1/8" by 3 1/8". I have done a bit of research of Viola Gaylord. She was born in 1891. I don't believe she was ever married. She is buried at the Lowville Rural Cemetary a long with her parents.
