Description: During the late 1800s, studio cabinets were the best way to capture high quality images of the famous athletes, actors, and other famous people. The cabinet consists of a photographic image adhered to a thicker cardboard backing to protect the image from creasing and folding. This cabinet comes from a collection of baseball player cabinets that we obtained a few years ago. All of the cabinets were made in 1890. What makes this group special is the fact that a number of the baseball players contained in this group of cabinets were then playing in the Players League - a renegade league started by John Ward, along with a number of other notable baseball players. Cards and memorabilia from the Players League are difficult to find. Cards from the old judge N172 set that feature players league cards are extremely hard to find. This really nice cabinet card features the image of Joe Quinn, second base for the BOSTON Club - Players League. Tou can see the BOSTON across his jersey. Cabinet measures approximately 4" by 6" ( actually a little more than 4" and almost 6.5" tall). The cabinet was issued by Waldon Smith Studios that was located in Boston. It was the practice of the Old Judge Company to utilize images taken at local studios for use in their epic N172 baseball card set. This image is really sharp. There is some wear to the cabinet itself. I will also be listing other cabinets from this same Players League team. Excellent opportunity to own a very tough cabinet card. 15.00 S & H Powered by eBay Turbo Lister The free listing tool. List your items fast and easy and manage your active items.
