This is an 1888 S MS62 PCGS 7186.62/44026894 VAM 13A Doubled Left Wreath Monster Gouged Eagle Hit List 40 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin. Attribution on reverse is by Variety Slabbing Service. From VAM World 2.0 Obverse: EDS has some die polishing lines in left and right fields. Reverse: Middle and inside leaves of left wreath doubled towards rim and couple leaves at right of wreath bow. Over 30 large and small die gouges on eagle and arrow shafts and feathers, the largest number of die gouges known on any Morgan dollar reverse die. Large broad horizontal gouge on tail feathers between legs with slanted gouge at lower left and right. Four vertical, horizontal and slanted gouges in arrow feathers below eagle’s right talons plus two short gouges just below arrow feathers. Long vertical gouges between eagle’s left wing and neck and between eagle’s right wing and leg. Two short broad gouges between eagle’s left wing and body and four short gouges in middle of eagle’s left wing and at bottom. Two short gouges at top of eagle’s right wing and several at back of arrow heads and above and below eagle’s left talons. Lower part of eagle’s right wing has die scratches in various directions plus long thin diagonal die gouge. Comments: This is one of the most spectacular die gouge Morgans. A barrage of over 30 gouges batter the reverse of this variety. Many of the gouges are sizeable, especially those just above and around the Eagle's right leg and talons. This all white coin has exceptional luster and eye appeal for a MS 62! In ANACS population report, there is only one coin graded higher with this VAM and only three of equal grade. RF8 in this grade.
