First edition, first printing. In fine binding: 1/2 dark brown leather with beveled edges and gilt bordering. Four spine bands with compartments decorated in gilt with gilt lettering. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Octavo, 588 pages, profusely illustrated. Condition: GOOD+ to VERY GOOD- Binding is tight, hinges and joints firm. Boards and extremities rubbed. About 1/2” strip of leather loss of heel of spine and chipping and surface layer loss to crown. Heavily rubbed corners with some leather loss. Former owner signature on blank front flyleaf. Interior is clean and bright with minimal foxing, mostly a few spots around the plates and tissue guards. Some offsetting from plates and owner inscription.
