Description: 1887 Jubilee Head Sixpence for sale Minted in 1887, this sixpence is 92.5% silver. It bears the image of Queen Victoria, more specifically the so-called "Jubilee Head" that was used to commemorate her Golden Jubilee that year. Unlike most other years, there are actually two different sixpence designs from 1887, this one and another that simply reads "Six pence" and the year 1887. This latter coin was minted when all 1887 sixpences like the one for sale were withdrawn from circulation due to being identical in size and design to that of gold half-sovereigns, as many... shall we call them unscrupulous? people were attempting to pass off these coins as the much more valuable half-sovereigns. Many of these withdrawn sixpences were melted down and recast with the new design, making this a rather rare coin indeed. On top of that, this coin is in immaculate condition, having been kept intact by previous owners in mint condition. As you can see on the third picture, this coin has some beautiful lustre around Victoria’s face, which only adds to the coin’s beauty! I will endeavour to send this sixpence tracked. I am happy to combine postage on multiple lots as/if necessary. Please take a look at my other listings as I have several other British and Rest of World coins and notes currently up for sale. Any questions please do not hesitate to ask. NOTE: I am NOT a dealer. I am however an experienced collector of both graded and ungraded coins, and all grades expressed in this listing are my own personal opinion based on my experience. Please examine all the photos attached to this listing to determine a grade for yourself before purchase.
