Description: GRANDPA HUGH COLLECTIONHugh C retired from the service after World War II and returned home to Las Cruces, NM. There he worked until he retired in 1952. But, for him retired life was not enough and one of the things he loved was taking a month, going to Albuquerque every year for most of the middle to late 1950's and working at the State Fair. Be it for the ticket booth or just a vendor that needed help Grandpa Hugh would help out and cashier for anyone that asked. He was by no means a wealthy man, but he did love old silver dollars. By this time, no silver dollars had been minted for 2 decades, so every one that passed through his hands was examined with care. Over the years that he worked the fair he carefully selected about 650 coins. They may not have been rare or superb; however, he was one to notice dates that do not show up regularly - yes, there are some nice common coins, those will eventually show up in our inventory when we get them back from NGC. The bulk of his collection was semi-key to key dates that were spent as money at the time. This story of Grandpa Hugh and his silver dollars was told when his heirs recently brought his collection to us. We were ecstatic to hear the tale and eventually came to an agreement with the heirs to purchase this special collection with the family's wish that all buyers be told of the storied history of their past.We are proud to offer these coins and their legacy to the collectors of today. 1883-S Morgan Silver Dollar, certified for grade and authenticity by NGC as AU 55.
