Free US Shipping on Purchases of 5 or More Maps and Prints Description: It is an authentic antique print approximately 140 years old, from the French journal Le Tour du Monde, Nouveau Journal des Voyages, (1878, Second Semestre) edited by Edouard Charton, a copy of the title page is included for documentation. It is not matted nor framed being sold as a single sheet as shown in the main pic. Le Tour du Monde was published from 1860-1914 and was a popular travel journal sold in bookstores as well as in the kiosks of railroad stations. It was dedicated to travel and exploration ranging from the discovery of the source of the Nile to the conquests of the Poles. The prints were designed by "the most celebrated artists of the day" as boasted on the Tour du Monde title pages, and were based on first hand expedition reports, sketches and photographs by renown explorers and travelers of the day. This print appeared in a series of articles by Henry Morton Stanley on his African Expeditions between 1874 and 1878. Stanley had previously made his fame during his New York Herald supported search for Dr. Livingstone, whom he found on Lake Tanganyika in present day Tanzania. It was there that he extended his hand and said "Dr. Livingstone, I presume." It was a world wide story at the time which led to numerous other African expeditions. Size: The image area measures 4 3/4 by 6 1/4 (12x16cm) page measures 8 by 11 3/4" (20x30cm) with a margin all around as seen in the main pic. Condition: The print is in Good to Very Good, text on reverse, light tonal ageing, otherwise it is very clean, see the pics for more on the condition. The pics are of the actual print.
