Description: For your consideration is an absolutely beautiful vintage George Eliot / Mary Ann Evans classic: Adam Bede. No stated copywritght or printing year, however the style is indicative of what the publisher (Hurst) was putting out in the 1870' and 1880's, and the work was really picking up steam as far as printings at that time. This is a great example and real "shelf candy" for the collector who's not looking to buy a (very expensive) 1859 printing. Edgewear as shown, but nothing too significant considering it is about 150 years old. The binding is very strong and tight (see the 2nd to last photo, the binding is holding the pages quite strong I'd say), and the pages have age-appropriate foxing but no more. Beautiful highly-detailed cover, and an elegant spine featuring gold gilt as well as fine black details that match the front cover. Most remarkable is there is no sun fading on the spine or covers here. Just the right amount of patina to show it's a true vintage book and not something you just picked up at the Barnes and Noble, but also above reproach compared to any other examples you may be lucky enough to find.
