Description: You are bidding on a very rare antique set of hardcover books titled Extracts of the Journals and Correspondence of Miss Berry From the Year 1783 - 1852. Edited by Lady Theresa Lewis. Published in London by Longmans, Green, and Co., 1865. This is the scarce First Edition. The set is complete in three volumes and you are bidding on all three volumes. The Journals of Miss Berry is great reading to learn about high society during the time. Miss Berry was well to do and traveled extensively and wrote about her experiences in Italy, France, etc. She describes conversations with Napoleon, at the Vatican, etc. The books are magnificent beauties!!! They are fully bound in brown leather. There are five raised bands on the spines. They have gold lettering and ornate compartmentalized gilt designs on spines. The spine of Volume III has a piece missing at top of spine (approx 1/2" by 1/2"). All covers are firmly attached with no cracking of hinges, either inside or outside. There is some flaking along the vertical edges of the spines. The covers have gilt ruling around perimeter. There is even gilt design on inside edge of covers. All pages are very clean and tightly bound. Top edge of pages has gilt edge. There is foxing to the blank pages in front and rear of books. There are decorative swirling endpages. No writing in books and no signs of previous ownership. This set is beautiful and is in overall very good condition. The set is almost 150 years old. The set is a real gem and would be a fantastic addition to any collection! It is quite a rare set! Would make a super addition to a collection. Great gift idea!
