1863 LEGENDS OF THE WAR Della Jerman Weeks AUTHOR'S EDITION Civil War Book

Description: This is a rare book entitled LEGENDS OF THE WAR written by Della Jerman Weeks and published by Mudge and Son in Boston in 1863. This is the Author's Edition and Printed for private circulation. The book measures 7 1/2" x 4 5/8" and has 63 pages. The dark green embossed hardcovers show corner, edge, upper/lower spine, and front/back cover wear. The title and author are printed in gilt gold. There is a portrait frontispiece of Della Jerman Weeks separated from the title page by heavy tissue paper (photo 4). A water stain can be seen at the top of the portrait page. The title page (photo 5) has two 1/8" tears with the piece of the page folded over. I just straightened it now but know that the issue is there. The binding is intact. The pages are lightly toned with no tears, creases, or dog-ears. The water stain "fades" throughout the book. There is a foxing "dot" which first faintly appears on page 44 and faintly disappears on page 60. Photo 12 shows the most pronounced effect. There are two, smaller foxing "dots" which appear on the last page and continue through 4 inside back cover pages. The inside back brown cover pages have two 1 3/8" vertical lines near the binding where the brown color is missing. They are each about 1/32" wide. This book has 6 poems as listed on the Contents page (photo 6). My husband is a Civil War buff and immediately recognized the book.
